SKIPPER'S REVIEW

We are one year old. On the eleventh of July 1944 the 'Mustang Patrol' as it was then came into being. Since that day the Patrol has grown into a Crew and has gone from strength to strength.

This year has brought many new members, with new ideas and all have combined to promote the Rover Spirit which is so strongly felt in the Crew.

I do not intend to attempt any description of our recent 'efforts', these are dealt with very fully elsewhere in the Mag. but, in passing, I must say how much we enjoyed the week-end at San Marino and the Birthday Dinner. Our thanks are due to all those who in any way helped in these two events.

We now have our own "Den' and are able to use it whenever we wish.

It was a great privilege for the Crew to be given permission to wear the Rover Scout uniform on the week-end camp. Old memories were brought back to the days when we used to wear our shorts and tabs and other trimmings.

We have heard from Ron Parkinson: he is invalided out of the Army. We were sorry to hear this and we hope he will soon be A-1 again.

It is great regret that we learned of Harry MacCalmont's recent bereavement in the loss of his father. Harry, by the way, is now active again being classified as B.7.

We welcome into the Crew Bill Reynolds, Cecil Ainsbury (ex-ARSL Tunis Crew) and Tom Cannings of the Rome Crew.

A new member will soon be introduced to the Crew. He is a small fat pup named 'Musty' and he is our mascot.

Going back a week or so I see in my diary a Rover Scout's Own was held on June 17th. This little service was held in the British Church in Rimini. Padre Hughes gave a most inspiring address and we all felt that we were to go forward more determined than ever to live our motto of Service. We hope to make this a regular part of our Promise - Our duty to God.

Our worthy Scribe is now back from a most excellent home leave, full of bright ideas. Our thanks go to him and Ron who has acted as Scribe during Gerry's absense.

I am very pleased to have as Rover Mates, who will help share the 'great burden' of administration etc., Bob Malseed and Ron Ibbotson. All the best in your new job.

The future is still, as it always was, uncertain. With LIAP (Leave in advance of Python - Ed), Release Groups, postings and the like, we cannot be sure who will or will not be with us in the future. However, we shall carry on
